The Children's Hospital at Westmead, NSW, is currently undertaking two clinical trials using BioCeuticals® 333.3IU/drop cholecalciferol oral emulsion as a vitamin D supplement and is trialling a 1000IU/mL vitamin D3 (now available commercially) and a higher strength 50 000IU/mL liquid.
According to pharmacists Pathma Joseph and Violet Hemmens involved in the hospital research, “Commercially available oral liquid preparations of cholecalciferol have long stability, are cost-effective and will be more effective in replenishing vitamin D levels.”
They add, "Pleasant-tasting, commercially available, higher-strength, liquid vitamin D3 preparations have the advantages of easier access, improved compliance, and greater patient acceptability, and are possibly the solution to the global need for effective treatment options for vitamin D deficiency."
