What Is Vitamin D3

What is Vitamin D3?

Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays many important roles in the body from healthy bone formation and immune defences to maintaining heart health function.

Vitamin D3 is usually obtained from sunlight or through dietary consumption.

Our main source of vitamin D3 in Australia is sun exposure. Special precursors in the skin help the body to convert UVB from sunlight into vitamin D3.[1]

A small amount of vitamin D can be obtained from food such as oily fish, beef, liver and fortified margarine and milk.[1] However, the amount in food is generally not enough to maintain adequate vitamin D3 levels.[2]
