Effects of Vitamin D3 Deficiency
With every new day comes new scientific research highlighting the detrimental effect that vitamin D3 deficiency can have on our health. So far, vitamin D3 deficiency has been associated with:
- Increased risk of cardiovascular problems[7]
- Insulin resistance [8]
- Increased risk of multiple sclerosis[9] and other autoimmune disease (e.g. lupus)
- Increased risk of obesity [10]
- Increased risk of depression and mood disorders [11]
- Increased risk of Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory conditions [12]
- Increased risk of cancer including breast,[3] prostate,[4] colon[5] and pancreas[6]
On the other hand, adequate levels of vitamin D are associated with:
- Reduced incidence of upper respiratory tract infection[13]
- Reduced risk of rheumatoid arthritis[14]
- Reduction in hip fractures, particularly in the elderly[15]
Vitamin D3 supplementation can go a long way to righting a D3 deficiency and preventing chronic health problems.
